Scholarship Overview:

The national remote Thurgood Marshall Scholarship, presented by Eta Theta Lambda of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is a prestigious award recognizing a Black or Latino male high school senior from anywhere in the United States. This scholarship honors a student who exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to community service, reflecting the ideals and legacy of Thurgood Marshall.

 

Scholarship Award:

The national recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship will be awarded $2000 to support their academic pursuits.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Ethnicity/Gender: Open to Black or Latino male students.

  • Academic Achievement: Minimum 80% average/3.0 GPA.

  • National Eligibility: Open to applicants from any location within the United States.

  • Community Service and Leadership: Demonstrated extensive involvement in community service and leadership both in school and in the community.

 

Application Requirements:

  • Resume Submission: A resume that outlines your academic achievements, leadership roles, and community service experiences.

    • Community Service Hours & Location Documentation:

    • Submit letters from community service organizations verifying the hours served and the nature of the service.

    • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters are required:

    • One from a School Leader: Highlighting your leadership within the school.

    • One from a Community Leader: Demonstrating your community service involvement and impact.

  • Proof of Leadership and Service: Provide certificates, awards, or other documentation evidencing your leadership roles and community service.

  • Essay Submission: (Optional) A 500-word essay on "How have your leadership and community service experiences shaped your goals and aspirations?"

 

Application Timeline:

  • Application Launch Date: January 9th

  • Application Deadline: April 1st

Selection and Celebration:

  • Winner Announcement: The scholarship recipient will be announced in May.

  • Celebration Details: Further information regarding the celebration of the scholarship recipient will be provided.
