WEB DuBois HBCU Scholarship
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Eta Theta Lambda Chapter presents the WEB DuBois HBCU Scholarship, designed to support and empower Black or Latino male high school seniors from the Greater Long Island or Greater New York City Area. This scholarship recognizes students who are dedicated to pursuing a four-year degree at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) beginning in Fall 2024. It is one of five distinctive scholarships offered, celebrating the diverse achievements and goals of young men in our community.
The scholarship awards $2000 to the selected recipient to support their education at a four-year HBCU.
Ethnicity/Gender: Open to Black or Latino male students.
Academic Achievement: Must have a minimum 80% average/3.0 GPA.
Geographical Restriction: Must be a resident of the Greater Long Island or Greater New York City Area.
College Admission: Must have been accepted to a four-year HBCU for the fall term after high school graduation.
Resume Submission: Submit a current resume that highlights academic achievements, leadership roles, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
Essay Submission: Write a minimum 500-word essay addressing the following question: "Why have you chosen to attend an HBCU and how do you plan to contribute to its community?"
Letters of Recommendation: Include two letters of recommendation from educators, mentors, or community leaders who can attest to your strengths and potentials.
Application Launch Date: January 9th
Application Deadline: April 1st
Selection and Celebration:
Winner Announcement: The scholarship recipient will be announced in May.
Celebration Event: There will be an in-person celebration event in late May/June in Long Island (details to be announced). Attendance by the scholarship recipient is mandatory.
